The County has issued the Design Build Request for Proposals in Spring 2020 for New Main Jail South as a replacement jail facility which would allow for increased programming and treatment, with bids due late Fall 2020. Old Main Jail South is nearing completion of demolition.
Previously, the Board of Supervisors received a report and approved the financing plan for the new facility and financing for it at their meeting on February 23, 2016. The County approved a contract for an architectural and engineering firm to assist in bridging documents and design on May 24, 2016, and the County approved a contract for a construction management firm to assist on the project on June 21, 2016. The County held a community meeting on September 22, 2016 on design for the project.
The Board of Supervisors approved a revised project scope and site at their meeting on January 23, 2018 and the Board reviewed and received updated design information on August 14, 2018. As part of the action on August 14, 2018, the Board authorized advertisement of the Request for Qualifications for the Design Build Contractor for New Main Jail South and authorized advertisement of Contract Documents for Old Main Jail South Abatement/Demolition project. On December 4, 2018, the Board awarded a contract for the Abatement and Demolition of Old Main Jail South. As part of a Board action on December 18, 2018, the Board approved and authorized advertisement of the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Design Build Contractor for New Main Jail South. On March 10, 2020, the Board agreed to decline State Senate Bill 863 funding and to utilize County lease revenue bonds funding in order to proceed with the project.
