The Reid-Hillview Airport lies on 180 acres of land in East San Jose and is actively used by private pilots of small aircraft, aviation related businesses and aviation education programs. In December 2018, the County Board of Supervisors declined future federal aid for the airport. As part of exploring alternative uses of the land, a visioning study was conducted based on the local community’s vision and the site's opportunities and constraints. The study included significant community outreach to understand the Community’s vision for the site and will be used by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors to explore options for the site and ultimately determine the airport’s future; no decision has been made to close the Reid Hillview airport.
The Reid-Hillview Vision Plan was presented and adopted by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, November 17th, 2020. The Board directed County staff to continue with the planning and community engagement process. Staff will return to the Board sometime in the future to present the plan for next steps in the process. We will inform the community of the exact date once the meeting is scheduled.
As a reminder, the adoption of the plan is not a decision on whether to close the airport, but a study regarding potential alternative uses should the airport be closed sometime in the future.
